Virginia early voting locations
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - With early voting now over, more than 102, 000 West Virginia voters have cast early or absentee ballots.
The secretary of state's office released the totals Monday. They include about 97, 300 early votes and 4, 800 absentee ballots returned.
The early voting turnout falls short of a similar 2010 nonpresidential election.
The secretary of state's office originally said about 108, 200 people cast early or absentee ballots in 2010. But the figure did not include about 5, 500 absentee ballots returned that year.
Since the option was first offered in 2002, early voting totals had been steadily increasing in each West Virginia midterm election. In 2002, about 24, 000 turned out at the polls early for the general election.
